Reduce Poly Count

Reduces face count using a collapse decimate, then attempts to restore quad structure by joining triangles afterward. Use this when you need fewer polys and you can tolerate some loss of fidelity.

Settings

  • Poly Reduction Ratio: ratio of faces to keep (1.0 = unchanged).
  • Clean Degenerate Geometry (optional).
  • Run Convert to Quads first if your mesh is already near-quad.
  • Use reduction for props and background assets; avoid it for hero characters unless you verify deformation.

Gotchas

  • Very high face counts can freeze Blender during heavy operations.
  • Decimation can introduce shading artifacts; verify normals after.
