Reduce Poly Count
Reduces face count using a collapse decimate, then attempts to restore quad structure by joining triangles afterward.
Use this when you need fewer polys and you can tolerate some loss of fidelity.
Settings
- Poly Reduction Ratio: ratio of faces to keep (1.0 = unchanged).
- Clean Degenerate Geometry (optional).
Recommended use
- Run Convert to Quads first if your mesh is already near-quad.
- Use reduction for props and background assets; avoid it for hero characters unless you verify deformation.
Gotchas
- Very high face counts can freeze Blender during heavy operations.
- Decimation can introduce shading artifacts; verify normals after.
