Smart Convert (Premium)

Smart Convert is for meshes where useful structure can be recovered without constructing an entirely new topology.

Hard-surface path

Premium scores likely original triangulation diagonals using local planarity, convex quad validity, edge proportions, triangle-area balance, seams, UV discontinuities, material boundaries, and geometric sharpness. Triangles with fewer valid pairing choices are matched first.

The final cleanup pass is deliberately conservative. It only relaxes triangle-shape proportions on near-coplanar faces and still respects creases, seams, UV splits, and material boundaries.

Result states

• 90%+ quads: strong Smart Convert result.
• 70-90%: usable mixed topology with protected residual triangles.
• Below 70%: partial conversion warning; inspect the source or choose another method.

Organic / scan behavior

Smart Convert can still improve organic or scan meshes when useful pairings exist, but it is not a substitute for a full topology reconstruction. Heavy tri meshes are surfaced as candidates for Production Rebuild.

When to use Production Rebuild instead

If the source is an oversampled scan, generated head/body, photogrammetry mesh, or other dense irregular surface with no meaningful triangulated quad structure to recover, use Production Rebuild.
