LOD Generation

LOD generation creates simplified variants of the mesh for distance rendering. The goal is stable silhouette and stable shading at lower cost.

How to think about LODs

  • LOD0: production mesh
  • LOD1+: progressively cheaper while preserving silhouette
  • Protect what defines the read of the asset

Validation

  • Check silhouette at distance
  • Check shading for flicker/noise
  • Check UV continuity if UVs matter per LOD
