LOD Generation
LOD generation creates simplified variants of the mesh for distance rendering.
The goal is stable silhouette and stable shading at lower cost.
How to think about LODs
- LOD0: production mesh
- LOD1+: progressively cheaper while preserving silhouette
- Protect what defines the read of the asset
Validation
- Check silhouette at distance
- Check shading for flicker/noise
- Check UV continuity if UVs matter per LOD
